NCSHPO, along with a number of national colleagues, submitted written testimony outlining support for funding under the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) for FY26. Testimony was remitted to the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies in April 2025 and to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies in June 2025.
The amounts requested for FY26 will help ensure that SHPOs, THPOs, and competitive grant programs continue to positively impact communities across the country. Under the leadership of new NCSHPO President, Anne Raines, NCSHPO is pleased to support the following for FY26 appropriations to the HPF.
The delay in the release of FY25 HPF appropriations has placed our historic resources at risk and placed many SHPO offices in dire financial situations.
FY26 HPF Request = $225 million
- $70 million for State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs)
- $34 million for Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (THPOs)
- $11 million for the Semiquincentennial grant program to commemorate our nation’s 250th
- $110 million for the (6) existing competitive grant programs that collectively celebrate our nation’s rich history
