Coalition Letter to DOI Secretary Burgum | Delayed FY25 Funding

NCSHPO Staff Avatar

NCSHPO was joined by 16 National Organizations on a coalition letter delivered a letter to Interior Department Secretary, Doug Burgum expressing extreme concern over the delay of FY25 federal funding appropriated to the Historic Preservation Fund. The undersigned organizations call upon the Department of the Interior and the Office of Management & Budget to expedite the release of these Congressionally appropriated FY25 funds, by releasing the requisite Notice of Funding Opportunity, followed by the swift approval of applications submitted to draw down such funds.

The delayed distribution of this funding is critical for State (and Tribal) Historic Preservation Offices supporting operations that carry out the functions of our national historic preservation program. Absent this funding:

  • State Historic Preservation Offices cannot maintain office operations, fulfill their federally mandated responsibilities, and are now forced to layoff staff
  • The government has fallen short on fulfilling their trust and fiduciary responsibility to Tribes
  • Preservation project funding has been retracted – risking negative, irreversible impacts on historic landmarks and cultural & archeological sites

…Putting America’s Heritage at risk!
