The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is an independent Federal agency that promotes the preservation, enhancement, and productive use of our Nation's historic resources, and advises the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy.

The NCSHPO and the National Park service have developed a cooperative agreement to carry out the Nation's historic preservation program. Cooperative agreement employees work under the daily direction of National Park Service managers on National Park Service activities that involve collarboration between State Historic Preservation Offices and the National Park Service.

NATHPO's overarching purpose is to support the preservation, maintenance and revitalization of the cutlure and traditions of Native peoples of the United States.

NAPC provides technical support and manages an information network to help local commissions accomplish their preservation objectives. The Alliance also serves as an advocate at federal, state and local levels of government to promote policies and programs that support preservation commission efforts.

Federal Agencies and Historic Preservation
With passage of the National Historic Preservation Act in 1966, Congress made the federal government a full partner and a leader in historic preservation. Today, federal agencies that have major stewardship responsibilities for public lands and resources, or have the most frequent, significant effects on historic properties through federal assistance and regulatory programs, have substantial historic preservation responsibilities
