The purpose of this project is to produce
a publication on cultural resource surveys that consists of a
series of essays that provide users with guidance on the identification,
evaluation, and inventory of groups of historic and archeological
properties worthy of preservation. Essays shall include, but are
not necessary limited to, topics covering recent past resources,
developing historic contexts, vernacular architecture, transportation/linear
resources, agricultural landscapes, archeological resources, and
resources significant for their association with historical patterns
and themes. In addition to these topics, the project will include
an essay covering survey basics--essential elements needed for
planning, conducting, and using historic resource surveys. This
essay can be largely extracted from information found in National
Register Bulletin 24, “Guidelines for Local Surveys.”
